* Note: all colors will pick up the natural highlights and lowlights found in the leather. While these variations add a beautiful texture and character to each piece it does not give a solid color like industrially dyed, heavily chemical dyed, leathers. Because it is not industrially dyed the leather is not softened with harsh chemicals but has to slowly break in to soften with time and use. As you use your new bag, it will take on the characteristics of the story you are creating together. Also, each piece of leather, like wood, is different and has its own characteristics including ripples, creases, high and low areas as this is a natural product. We do not consider these flaws but the unique characteristics of each piece of leather.
The dyes used are an environmentally friendly water-based dye which leaves a rich hand-finished touch on each bag bringing out the unique highlights, grains, and character of each piece of leather. We use a variety of different hand-applied, finishes to both protect and emphasize the leathers natural beauty. The wax on the outside casing is Carnauba wax or palm wax and is non-toxic food-grade wax. This wax can occasionally be seen in the carvings on our leatherwork and eventually will wear away.

This dragon is our own design based on our studies of heraldic dragons. Since we are both personally interested in the lore and mythology of dragons...and because dragons may just be the number one requested image at our booth we wanted to make a special dragon together. The other inspiration behind this dragon was drawn from our multiple trips to Europe. This pendant is made of pure copper and we decided to create an unusual shaping to give it further personality. You can wear this with a semi-casual attire or with a casual attire. The red inlay on the copper is by far the most intense colour combination we make. In the natural light the red intensifies like fire engulfing the dragon!
Please feel free to check out my blog about our dragon inspirations on our blog.
This pendant is about 4.2 x 2.6 cm or 1 5/8 x 1 1/16 inches.
Each metal component, made in our Alberta, Canada, studio, is the product of a rigorous 35-45 step process (around 35 per earring or pendant and between 40 and 45 per ring and cuff link). Starting with plain sheets of metal we design and create our components one at a time. Some of the key steps include preparing the metal and design work, etching the imagery and cutting custom shapes. Shaping is done with a manual hydraulic press (2000 lbs plus per a component) to create stronger, more durable and professionally shaped components. Each piece is finished with a meticulous hand applied coloring process wherein each color is individually applied and often on different days to allow for the lengthy drying process (up to 72 hours). The majority of the other steps revolve around an absurd amount of sanding and cleaning, as well as, adding the finishing touches such as ear hooks, jump rings, soldering etc. Because of this no two items are identical and they have variations between each item.
This copper pendant has been made with 99.99% pure copper.
Please see our supplies section to buy a cord.
Each item comes with a care card, authentication card, gift box and item card. The last picture shows what the packaging looks like complete with our in studio made product card. Your item (featured in the first picture) will be featured on one of our custom cards.
For upgraded shipping, tracking and insurance please contact us.
*Note because we are selling online at two different places and we are doing shows it may take the full 10 days for us to ship the item if we have to remake it. Because of this your item will look either almost the same or very close to what you see in the picture (more than likely you will receive the item in the picture above). Why We Make Books:
Books have been used for centuries to chronicle every aspect of human life and knowledge but one of the most important things books have captured over time are the stories and spirit of those who poured themselves into the pages. Our books capture the romanticism of the classic journal or artists pad by employing a classic binding, high quality leather, and blank pages to beckon the imagination. Our collection dives deeper still into the owners life as each piece is created to be a stand-alone functional piece of artwork which can be filled with treasures from their minds, hearts and lives. As works of art they can be displayed prominently on a shelf or coffee table to create an eye-catching feature. Drawing from our love of travel and the classical era these books are intended to be taken into the moments that define people and used as the scribe to capture the events of the day or maybe of a life time. The acid free pages are ideal for writing, drawing, sketching, photographs, keepsakes, souvenirs, and more. Each book can have new pages added if the user wishes to keep using the jacket or would like to add their own preferred papers in.
Notes from the studio:
How we make our pieces:
Each book in this series is meticulously hand carved, hand dyed, hand finished and hand bound. Each image carved onto these books is an original created from our inspirations, which include: fantasy, travelling to ancient ruins, history and mythology. Some of these books are also hand painted with special leather paints and overlays. The leather used is an ethically sourced tooling hide that softens in over time. All of the leather used for these books is vegetable tanned and is a byproduct of the food industry. The acid free wheat straw pages are great for: writing, drawing, sketching, pen, pencil, etc. The classic bind used on these books gives an elegant old-world finish and allows the user or local book-binding clubs to easily rebind the book with any type of paper. The dyes used are an environmentally friendly water based dye which leaves a rich hand-finished touch on each book bringing out the unique highlights, grains, and character of each piece of leather*. We use a variety of different, hand applied, finishes to both protect and emphasize the leathers natural beauty. Finishes may include, but are not limited to, any or all of the following depending on the piece: high quality oils, waxes, gums, and protective coats. Each book is hand buffed once the finishes have set to give it a resilient sheen.
* Note: all colours will pick up the natural highlights and lowlights found in the leather. While these variations add a beautiful texture and character to each piece it does not give a solid colour like industrially dyed, heavily chemical dyed, leathers. Also each piece of leather, like wood, is different and has its own characteristics. These are not considered flaws.

*Colours may change slightly based on what is available or mixed.

How we make our pieces:
Each book in this series is etched with our own hand drawn artwork. Each image etched onto these books is an original created from our inspirations, which include: fantasy, travelling to ancient ruins, history and mythology. Made from supple, vegetable tanned leather the books in this series come in either large or small sizes. This leather is ethically sourced as a byproduct of the food industry. The acid free wheat straw pages are great for: writing, drawing, sketching, pen, pencil, etc. The classic bind used on these books gives an elegant old-world finish and allows the user or local book-binding clubs to easily rebind the book with any type of paper.
* Note: The distressed, vintage style, leather is never the same twice. The antiquing process is done by hand and will have different variations in the antiqued pattern while maintaining the same consistent high quality. Every book has it's own unique characteristics making each an individual experience. These variations add a beautiful texture and character to each piece. Also each piece of leather, like wood, is different and has its own characteristics. These are not considered flaws and this type of process is for people who live rustic, individual journals. Only one antiqued color is available at this time. Some of the antiquing dye may be on the inside suede of the journal, we feel this adds to the rustic nature of this journal.

This fantasy fashion show / gothic theme inspired fashion show was a joint collaboration between us, Skrocki Design (previously called Paragon of Design by Skrocki) and Lewis Mayhem in 2016. All new pieces were created based on an original concept focusing on an ancient family of vampires. The colors selected for the show were symbolically chosen to represent life, death and the transition to the immortal state. All our masks, leather corsets, jewelry, clutches etc. were developed for this show over the course of 6 months, with the longest pieces taking 1 month each to create. The riveted corset from the show can be viewed in the video "How to Set Rivets." About Lewis Mayhem aka Cory Richard-Jones. Lewis Mayhem...
Small business, big orders! In this video I take you through how we do large scale custom orders with multiples of each item. I also offer some advice if you are considering approaching businesses or organizations about creating items or even wholesaling items to them for resale. Although this video is about metal or hand made jewelry you can use the time-saving ideas to apply them to many different types of crafts and scale up your craft business.
