Our top 12 favourite new wooden earrings and other new items for summer!

We hope you are having a great summer so far and that you were able to spend Canada Day or Independence Day with your friends and family.

Part of our summer tradition is doing the St. Albert Farmers’ Market. This market is one of the largest farmers’ markets in all of Western Canada and features numerous well known artists, artisans, and crafters, along with all the typical items you would expect to find. It regularly attracts crowds of 15,000 to 20,000 each Saturday. We are attending most of the dates in July, August, and October, but we are skipping September due to some larger shows we have booked. You can click here to see our upcoming September shows. Our booth number changes since we did not sign up as a full time vendor. I will try to post where we will be at the market each time. If I do not, we are one of the few blue topped tents.

We have been participating in the St. Albert Farmers’ Market since we started selling seven years ago. Some customers have been buying from or stopping by our booth since we first set up there with a large patio umbrella. We quickly bought a tent after it took both of us to keep the umbrella from tipping over.

Our booth at the market, featuring some of our custom built display stands. I will be writing a blog on how we made these from an assortment of used or nearly free items.

On the left side of the booth is one of the display stands we built for our new line of lightweight, colourful wooden earrings. Some of you may have seen our leather earrings at the booth or online. We now have a new collection of earrings and pendants made from Baltic birch. These earrings are large, lightweight, and only $25 CDN per pair. Each design can be custom made in any of the other colours you see online.

I started making some of these in leather, but the dyeing process was so time consuming that I could not keep them at the $25 price point. The great thing about the wooden pieces is that, with most of them, you can see the wood grain right under the colour, which adds an extra dimension to the piece.

Also, as part of our wooden earrings collection, due to popular demand, we started creating fandom favourites for the comic expos we attend and have carried those designs into our other shows as well. These will now also be available on our website. We will be adding some new fandom pieces for the Edmonton Expo coming up in September. Shows like Dr. Who have kept me company in the studio for quite a while. I like to use episodes as a way to track how long I have been working and how long each item takes. The next time someone asks how long it took to make one of our masks, I might say “16 episodes of Dr. Who.”

Our top 12 favourite new wooden earrings for summer!

From our classic dragon and quatrefoil designs, to our fandom favourites, to all the new designs I have developed in preparation for this season’s markets, we are excited about this collection. Of course, it was hard to choose from the large variety of new wooden designs, and we could not commit to just a top 10, but we narrowed it down to our top 12.

We finally made some of the most requested items at the booth, wallets. Below are a couple of our bi fold and single fold wallets. We have several others in stock right now, including a skull and scarab. We plan to add one or two each week to our inventory, so there will be a large selection in no time. We are selling them at the market and other shows and will be putting them online in the near future. If you have any questions or would like to purchase one, please email us and we will add it to the store.

We have been working steadily on custom orders we have received over the last couple of months and really enjoy creating new ideas that come from you. Pictured below is a set of custom bracers we made for a customer.

This custom order is one of the most asked about. We have had several emails and people stopping by the booth to tell us how beautiful this book is. This traveler’s or Midori style journal holds several inserts that can be easily changed out depending on what you want to carry with you.

We are working on some printable inserts, including day planners, to do lists, field drawings, and notes. We will make these inserts available for free on our blog. I have finished one for Tanner, and we are working on a video to show you how great this style of book is.

Another item back in stock is the “Tree of Life” journal. It is not listed on our store yet since we are also selling it in person. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us.

This is one of our most popular leather journals. It is hand carved, tooled, and hand dyed with four layers of green dye, then sealed and hand painted with gold leather paint. We then fold, mark, and hand bind all the pages for the journal. Because the pages are hand bound, they can easily be replaced after you fill the journal.

This journal is made from quality North American tooling leather and features acid free cardstock pages, which are great for writing and drawing with pen or pencil, as well as displaying photographs or keepsakes.

Lastly, we are working on another fan favorite that has been out of stock most of the year: our hand carved Dragon leather journals! We will bring them out to the markets and have them online as soon as they are ready.

The item of the month is our small-antiqued leather journals! With this item of the month it includes, along with one of designs, an etching of your initials for free! To order the customized journal just send us an email with what you would like (which design) and type in the comments section your first, middle and last initial! Your initials will then be placed along the bottom of the inside flap.

Note: Most of the wooden earrings are not in stock and are made to order. This requires several days to be made before sending them out.
